From surplus to sculpture

Our approach to materials is grounded in responsibility and respect for resources. As part of this commitment, our perfume lids are crafted using surplus wood from the studio of Sebastian Cox. Giving new purpose to what would otherwise be considered waste.

In a working wood studio, offcuts are inevitable. Each piece of furniture produced generates smaller remnants of timber. Beautiful, characterful pieces that are too small for furniture but far too valuable to discard.

Typically, surplus wood from the studio is used as biomass fuel to heat the workshop during the winter months. This ensures nothing goes to landfill and that even the smallest pieces continue to serve a purpose. By collaborating with the studio, we’re able to redirect a portion of this material and extend its life even further, transforming it into our perfume lids before it eventually returns to the natural energy cycle.

Because the lids are shaped from reclaimed offcuts, no two pieces are ever identical. Grain patterns shift and curve unpredictably. Knots, tonal variations, and subtle markings tell the story of the tree and the craft studio it passed through.

Rather than aiming for uniformity, we embrace this individuality. Each lid becomes a small, functional sculpture, a tactile expression of the material’s past life. The natural variation means every bottle carries its own distinct identity, turning each piece into something personal and quietly artistic.

The natural composition of solid wood, with its open grain and porous cellular structure, allows it to hold and gradually release fragrance when applied directly. By lightly spraying the perfume onto the wooden lid, the material absorbs the liquid into its fibres. From there, it slowly diffuses the scent back into the room over time, allowing the material to do what it does best. The wood isn’t simply decorative; it actively participates in the sensory experience. It breathes with the fragrance, softening and extending it into the room.
